Behind The Scenes - The Process + Updates
Hello readers,
I hope the last two episodes have been enjoyable for you. It's been a while since the last one. I thought I'd give you a behind the scenes special and explain my process for writing the episodes, what with Writing Month coming up in a few days and my project is to write 5 episodes for ARAT within the month of November. Things don't always go smoothly but the process is the same throughout. At the end of this post, I will also touch on a couple of changes that have come and are coming in the near future.
The process starts in my mind, where I think up the story for the episode. I never write a plan for these (even though I really should), and just get straight into writing and let the story develop as I write.
The writing process comes as simple as you would expect. The source code for the site is hosted on Codeberg, I clone the repo locally on one of my Linux setups (laptop, iSH or WSL, depending which device I'm using) then make and edit the file using Neovim. Writing each episode normally takes about 2-3 hours (because I get distracted easily) but I am hoping to get this down but still keep the great quality writing.
And, that's my process for making ARAT episodes. Now I'm going to briefly about some updates that have come and are going to come in the next few days.
The first change, which you may have noticed already is the tags listed in the post list, this will be the series tag (at the mimute, it's Series 1). Linked to series tags, I have moved each episode file into a series-#
directory. This will help organise things in the future.
Another change is the footer, things have changed here and it now includes feedback links for contacting me (both email and Fediverse). The final change I want to talk about is one of the future, I am planning on changing the /blog/
directory to /episodes/
, this may take a while whilst I figure it out.
I hope you enjoy reading this Behind The Scenes post, Episode 3 of ARAT will be coming in the first week of November.
Have a good day,
Orbital
